Make Your Own Water Wheel ( Part 2 )

MAKE YOUR OWN WATER WHEEL

Today I’ve been making a project to learn about the power of water. It was very hard but I kept on trying and trying until I got it right.

It was very hard for me, but I got some instructions from a video by Nanogirl. She made it look pretty easy but it was actually hard. What I used to make this experience was:

Colored paper

An extra sheet of paper

One rectangle paper

Scissors, Tape

String, marker

A pump bottle

A cup,ruler

A stick, Pencil

Blu-tack, a paper clip

A bowl and a measuring cup filled with water.

Step 1:

First what you’ll do is get a stick and a colored paper. Roll your paper then once you’ve done that, tape the line across, cut it in half and put that aside.

After that take your pump bottle, so in this way it’s probably a good time to ask a grown up to help you. The first thing you're going to do is pierce a hole in the bottle right on the top of the flat section, then you're going to cut around it until the top comes off.

Next, cut down one end. Then you’re going to cut the bottom off by twisting and going around (you’re not going to need the bottom). Now you’re left with a strip that is quite curly and that curve is going to help catch the water in your turbine blade.

Step 2:

Then what you’re going to do is try to flatten it. Because it keeps curling you’re going to use a cup on one end and then use your own hand to keep the other end flat. Now you want your blades to be three centimeters wide.

Use your ruler to count three centimeter six times then you're going to do the same thing on the other side. After that draw the line across on each line. After that cut them out straight and that’s going to give you six turbine blades that are all the same sides. Put them aside.

What you're going to do next is your blade housing. That is going to hold your turbine blades in place, so you're going to need two disc cards. You’re going to need a cup to make two circles then cut them out and that will leave two big circles.

Now you're going to put both of your big circles together, on a piece of Blu-tack. Then get your stick and poke it through the center of the circle and it will give both of your circles a hole in each circle.

Step 3:

After you’ve done that, get one of your circles and you’re going to draw a line from the center of the circle out the edges. Once you’ve got your line. You need want to divide it into sixths, so what you’re going to do is one half of your circle and try figuring out what would be thirds.

Next what you’re going to do is get your ruler and line it up on the dotted line then you draw a line across it then do the same thing with your other dotted line and that’s going to give you  six lines on your circle. After that you’re going to mark another dotted line two inches inside your circle on each line.

Then you're going to get your other circle and you're going to put them together so that you are going to cut them at the same time on the line so you're going to cut each line on the circle then once you're done, your notches then you will put that aside.

Next what you’re going to do is draw two small circles (or you could draw around a coin if that’s easier for you) then cut them out then once you have two small circles get your Blu-tack and stick put your one of your circles on the Blu-tack and use your stick to make a hole through the center of your circle then that will give you a hole.

Then you're going to push your hole through your stick onto the far end of your stick then do the same thing with your other circle but put your circle the opposite way. Then you're going to get both of your big circles then slide it in the stick then separate them with enough distance.

Step 4:

Now you're going to get your six turbine blades then you're going to stick them inside the big circles with the cuted lines then tape the edges so it won’t come off. But you're going to face all of them the same way, once you’ve done that you're going to slide one of your small circles near the big circle and that’s going to give you an incredible turbine blade.

So you’re going to get your bowl or your sink and you're going to get both of your bearings (Your rolled paper) and slide the stick inside both on each side then use your Blu-tack stick it on the bearings so that it can stick on the bowl.

Then after that secure your string to your stick between your two small circles then use Blu-tack so it’s sticky enough to hold once you’ve done that. Use the other end of your string and tie it to a paperclip then cling your paperclip to something small.

Then get a cup or measure cup with water inside there pour the water on the turbine blade and there you have your very own “Water Wheel”. If it worked great, if not go on and have another try.
